Playboi Carti “I Am Music” Album Review – Was It Worth the Wait?

After dropping one of the most influential Hip-Hop albums of the decade, Playboi Carti looks to take over once again. This time with his promising fourth studio album “I Am Music”. This album has 30 songs on the album. Songs like “2024” or “FOMDJ” were also added on the deluxe which created even more hype behind the project.

It has been a journey for this album release with things like “I am Liar” trending on X. Fans began a meme surrounding the 29 year-old artist’s mysterious persona even involving his relationship with his kids. Fans went to the lengths of even trying to release the album themselves using leaks and artificial intelligence. The album was teased for more than three years on and off with “Narcissist” being the original title . This all started from a Instagram story with the album’s title which was confirmed as Playboi Carti’s next project. From the previous Gothic rap punk aesthetic we saw in his last album “Whole Lotta Red,” we observed the Atlanta-raised rapper undergo another change with his style. Often rocking brands like Rick Owens before in the “WLR” era. We now see the rapper wearing loose fitting clothes and rocking baseball caps in the most “trim” way.

Playboi Carti has never been known as a EMCEE rhyming lyrical with miracle or spiritual at 1000 miles per hour. Carti is energy and a performer, excelling at providing fans with an experience they will never forget. I personally can’t get his ad-libs out my head. Between “Seeyuh” and famous Atlanta DJ Swamp Izzo talking almost every 30 seconds each track almost.

With 30 songs it’s bound to feel like you’re fighting sleep. Even though we get these upbeat, in your face songs it feels like there is no lows or chilling. I think this album was geared to fluff his Rolling Loud set in my opinion. One of my favorite songs from the album was “I SEEEEEE YOU BABY BOI” by far. This song gave me thoughts of a nightclub in a futuristic setting. I think this and “POP OUT” gave me the feel of who Carti can be at his peak, the trend.

One thing I feel like he missed out on was features. With his camp including artists like Ken Carson, Destroy Lonely, and the Homixide gang it seemed like he would use them at least once. They’re not even an ad-lib. Also artist like Babyxsosa who shares connections to him and YE (of course). We got a ton of forced collabs especially with a wasted Young Thug feature on “WE NEED ALL DA VIBES”. But overall this album is definitely going to be remembered because we finally got the album.

FOR THIS ALBUM RATING IDKYETMEDIA GIVES THIS AN:

7.2/10
